it seemed that life for alexander james snow couldn't get much better than how it already was. he was excelling in school, his social life was booming, and now it seemed that he had the perfect girlfriend to top off his last year at hogwarts. for once there was no drama, and he was completely content with his surroundings and how everything was working out. he felt like a king, or even better, an emperor of the free world. there was nothing that could tear him down from this high. who could blame him for having a slight spring in his step when he walked from corridor to corridor? the world was nothing but his oyster, and he was the pearl.
today the king was walking the path outside the lake, not really paying attention to his surroundings. he was contemplating giving the hopefully future mrs.alexander snow a present for their six month anniversary, and well, a necklace would be boring. after all she was worth so much more than something attached to a dinky gold plated chain. at the same time, he wouldn't buy a ring yet either. but mid thought, he was brought to the ground with a large 'oomph.' turns out he had walked into a very familiar face.

Arlequin was tired. She had spent almost all night reading and had only slept for about two hours before getting up and having breakfast in the great hall. She slowly left the castle, giving small smiles to other students but mostly staring at the ground. She wished she wasn't so awkward but she couldn't help it. People were always so confident and she never knew what to say without sounding like a complete geek. Actually, the only time she sounded confident was when she was yelling at a kid for doing something wrong and people didn't seem to appreciate that.
She was walking past the lake when she ran into someone. She let out a grunt as she landed on her butt and turned to apologize to the kid, with bright red cheeks. It took her less then a second to recognize him. "I-I'm sorry, Alex" She looked down, feeling slightly awkward. She hadn't talked to him in what felt like ages, but then again he was popular and she was the awkward Ravenclaw who spent most of her time with her nose in a book. She brushed a strand of hair out of her face and slowly got to her feet.

"oh um... s-sorry arlequin!" of course that was a huge surprise. the two hadn't talked for what seemed to be ages upon ages, and well, alex supposed he was to blame for that. after all he was the more outgoing of the two, and as such should have taken more of an initiative to maintain the relationship. however, that didn't usually cross his mind due to his growing friend group and other priorities. but was that really her? she had gotten so much cuter than he remembered, especially with her blushing cheeks shining a brilliant shade of crimson. "here. let me help you up." he gave her his hand and tugged her up gently, helping her with her hair on top of it all. "good as new, right?"
it was weird seeing her. after all, they were friends as children, first years. back then social status didn't matter, and it didn't matter if you wore the right shoes or said the right things.he missed that time, as much as he loved his life now. "um..." alexander rubbed the back of his neck and blinked at her, smiling, "long time no talk, right? jeez. where's all the time gone?" okay, so he wasn't very good at small talk. some things never change.

"It's okay" Quinn replied quietly. She took his hand when he offered it and let him pull her to her feet. She felt her cheeks redden even more when he fixed her hair. "Yeah. Thanks" She smiled slightly. He was really handsome. She remembered him as a dorky kid when they had been best friends. She wished she could remember why they had stopped being friends. Her quietness was partially to blame. She had never been talkative, even as a child she had preferred to stand by and watch others to talk.
She smiled at his attempt at small talk. "We've both been busy and you have your girlfriend" She said softly, shrugging. Everyone knew that he had a girlfriend. She had been slightly jealous the first time she had heard about it even though she had no reason to be. "How have you been?" She asked. She gently pulled his arm so that they were walking and then let go of his arm. She didn't want to stand still for to long or she would probably fall asleep but that was the consequence for staying up so late. She rubbed her eyes and looked up at him for a moment before looking back at the lake.

alex could not help but feel attracted to the woman before him. it seemed that the awkward looking best friend he had had his first year really had gone through her april, and now before him stood, frankly, an extremely beautiful girl. plus, he always was a sucker for blondes. even more, she was bright red at the moment and it made him give a slight chuckle at her face. she looked like a deer in the head lights with him, even though he couldn't figure out why. being with her comforted him, after all he did not have to really put up a front like he did with other people.
"oh yeah... my girlfriend." that made him smile, but part of him was disappointed. he should have told arlequin as opposed to her finding out from someone else. "yeah she has been keeping me a little busy... but i've been good. everything is sort of coming together nicely. i can't complain." alexander started to walk with her, linking her arm with his and whistling, "and what about you, quinnie? is everything good on your end? you look extremely tired this fine afternoon." that made him frown. she looked totally wiped, so of course he was concerned.

Quinn had known for a while that he had a girlfriend. All the girls in her dorm seemed to love gossip and she would hear them talking about who was in a relationship with who and why they were jealous. They usually made an effort to include her but she didn't care about hearing any of it so she would stick her nose back into her book and try to continue reading while they kept talking. She would actually talk and laugh with them if they weren't discussing love, since she didn't really understand it to begin with.
"I'm happy for you" she said and she really was. He was lucky to find someone who cared for him. She paused when he asked how she was. "I'm good. I spent all night reading a really old muggle book my parents sent me. I couldn't put it down, so i only got about two hours of sleep and I still have more to read." Talking about the book made her excited. It was a really big book but she was enjoying it. Her parents knew of her love for reading and as long as she kept up with her schoolwork then they would send her a new book.
